Self-Discipline Pyramid
Developing a successful Classroom Management Plan involves building relationships, creating a caring community, designing engaging lessons, teaching students expectations, helping students recover when they do not meet expectations, teaching life skills (self-discipline and social skills), and facilitating a plan when students struggle to succeed and developing wraparound supports when needed.
A classroom management plan includes five different levels of management strategies that cohesively teach youth how to become self-disciplined (Villa, Thousand & Nevin, 2010). This approach creates an individualized plan for every student and helps meet the needs of those students individually instead of as a class as a whole. This strategy promotes equity in any classroom as every class is full of a diverse set of students.
